The Lighthouse And The Whaler

Who are they?

It began in a field. THE LIGHTHOUSE AND THE WHALER began in 2008 when Michael LoPresti, Evan Storey, and Aaron Smith went to a park in Cleveland, Ohio to play music together. They wrote their first song in fifteen minutes. As they played it together, people began to stop and listen, helping the boys realize that they were on to something. In that moment, THE LIGHTHOUSE AND THE WHALER was born. With blends of sweeping vocals, shimmering melodies and orchestral soundscapes, THE LIGHTHOUSE AND THE WHALER’s sound is both organic and natural.

Playing a mix of  indie, folk and pop, The Lighthouse and the Whaler’s music has caught the attention of MTV, Fuse, FILTER, Spinner, Under the Radar and other media outlets that cater to indie-folk-pop music fans.

The band has performed at SXSW, CMJ, Culture Collide, POP Montreal and iconic venues like Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, SXSW, House of Blues and Mercury Lounge, though its favorite show to date took place in the attic of an old bookstore. The Lighthouse and the Whaler has shared stages with Sufjan Stevens, The Temper Trap, GIVERS and The Dodos, and shared blankets while sleeping in its donated mini-van, nicknamed Serena.

The Lighthouse and the Whaler will release their Sophomore album ‘Mont Royal’ via Smack Face Records later this year.
